The Habsburgs were enthusiastic collectors. Valuable treasures of the highest artistry as well as objects considered “miraculous” or exotic were assembled and displayed in Kunst- und Wunderkammer- which translates to “cabinets of arts and curiosities”.

only illustrious guests were allowed to enter. Nowadays, anyone can marvel at objects such as the intricately worked golden Saliera (salt cellar) by Benvenuto Cellini. In the picture gallery, great masters of art, such as Bruegel, Dürer, Raffael, Titian, Rubens and Velasquez vie for visitors’ attention.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum is among the most important in the world, and one could spend days wandering through its historic rooms. This tour provides
